Killington, Vermont is a fantastic summer destination thanks to its accessible outdoor activities like hiking and mountain biking, cool temperatures (highs rarely exceed mid-80s°F and are generally in the low 70s), numerous family-friendly (and free) events, and a scenic landscape that lets you relax and unwind.

Factor in its proximity to major New England cities like Boston (3 hours), Portland, Maine (3 hours), and New York City (4-5 hours), and it’s a trip that can get you out into nature without needing much logistical planning.

What 2026 Summer Events Are Happening in Killington, VT?

One advantage Killington has over many smaller mountain towns is that there’s usually something happening every weekend during the summer season.

Cooler in the Mountains Concert Series

July 4 – September 5

The Cooler in the Mountains concert series returns to the K-1 Base Area during summer 2026 with free outdoor concerts, mountain views, food vendors, and lots of family fun for everyone. Bring a blanket or low-backed lawn chair and prepare for a few hours of great tunes and incredible views. The 2026 lineup is still being finalized, but be on the lookout soon!

Killington’s biking culture stays active all summer with the Bike Bum Race Series, a local favorite where teams or individuals compete weekly for prizes and bragging rights. You can participate or spectate. Races kick off July 1, and the afterparty is one of the most fun parts of the entire thing.

What is There to Do in Killington Besides Summer Events?

Beyond our popular events, Killington in summer is a great time to get outside. Here are our favorite things to do on a summer day:

Ride the Gondola

The K-1 Gondola runs during the summer and gives you access to panoramic Green Mountain views without the climb. At the summit, you’ll find:

  • Hiking access
  • Photo opportunities
  • Picnic areas

Go Hiking

There’s a trail for every skill level in Killington. Along the way, you can see everything from wide mountain views to waterfalls to quiet reflection lakes. We recommend:

  • Kent Pond – Easy, 1.6-mile round-trip, dog-friendly trail. Located at Gifford Woods State Park – there’s a $5 entry fee for adults and $2 for kids.
  • Deer Leap Lookout and Mountain Loop – Moderately difficult 4.6-mile loop with 1,400 feet of elevation gain. Bring your pups, but be prepared for a climb, so lots of snacks and water are also recommended.
  • Killington Peak: A difficult trail that rewards you with views of the Green Mountain valleys. The trail is 7.4 miles round-trip and features a whopping elevation gain of 2,470 feet. It is free to access.

Visit the Killington Bike Park or Adventure Center
